We have two bathrooms in our home, one in the hallway and then a master bath in Roy and my bedroom. The hall bathroom is pretty much the boys/guest bathroom as our son lives here too and as is my typical MO (method of operation) I wanted to make it unique, lovely, yet something that would appeal to guys. I also wanted a touch of fun. Yep that’s me… the woman who wants her bathroom to be fun. S,o below shows what I did and everything I purchased. I linked to what I bought if possible in case you too would like to add some “fun” to your own bathroom. You’ll also notice there is a separate post on how I did my Sturdy Granite Contact Paper Countertop Makeover. It turned out beyond beautiful and made a huge difference in the entire bathroom. We’ve also got a freebie for you below. There’s a PG version and a G rated version. Do you have a tub that you don’t use often or at all? Check out How to Make a Removable Bathtub Cover. It’s amazing!
We also did a full makeover on our master bathroom complete with recovering the counter with contact paper.

There are two versions. The top one is a G rated version if you have kids in the house. Please choose appropriately.
PG-13 VersionPhotos
These are the “before” photos. Notice the folding door on the very small linen closet. It was hard to access with that door. Everything had an orange tint to it.
We chose a cool grey. And what’s up with that towel rod in the shower?? Its not like you can use it when your showering. The middle part was missing when we bought the house. We did buy the middle part just so it at least looked normal.
Much better.
Under the sink was plain gross. I wiped it out and cleaned it up.
Then we added paint. Paint can fix a multitude of sins! The rag was removed and the hole filled. I also painted the outside of the cupboard.
We took the double fold door off as it was ridiculous for that spot and made it even harder to access the tiny closet.
Roy decided to add a wood frame around the plain mirror to dress it up. It was fairly easy to do by mounting wood strips around, then cutting some baseboard trim to go around it.
It made a huge difference.
As you might recall from my post about tree decals, “Nothings Right Till There’s a Tree on My Wall, I’m a tree person and usually have at least one vinyl tree somewhere in the house. Right now there’s some in my living room but I wanted to add another in the bathroom so we purchased a white one and Roy did the honors of putting it up for which I’m grateful as its fairly tedious work.
First the trunk.
Then the branches.
This is the basic tree. Leaves were still needed at this point.
The next and probably biggest project was covering up my countertop. This was the paper I chose. I researched how people had done it but was concerned about longevity and how well it would hold up. So I found a way to make it very sturdy and long lasting.
This is how it turned out. I did a full post on this process which you can click the link below. You’ll also notice the knobs we replaced.

There was only one drawer so we lined it with contact paper and added some dollar store organizers.
Organized under the sink then added what I think is the greatest invention ever. Store bag holders for trash. They attach INSIDE the door and you hang the bags on them. That way there’s no need to place a trash can on the floor. I have a set in both bathrooms! They’re called Handi Hanger Trash Bag Holders
Dollar store containers, one for my son and one for my husband. The Large Teal Carpet
Roy made me my shelves. Save me about $30 or $40.
This pen is above the toilet. We have no small children so we opted for the PG-13 version for giggles though I’ve blurred it out so as not to offend. We’ve got a free G rated version too. Both are free downloads up top. I added a simple mason jar with stones and fake greenery that I already had.
The other two shelves were added next to the sink. I purchased two baskets, one for my husband and one for my son. They hold shaving gear etc. Plus a clock.
I also bought a hand towel holder and really nice soap dispenser. I buy the soap in bulk for refilling which saves money. I found the clock on eBay.
Another view of the sink. I love the knobs I found that match so well.
There were no towel racks in the bathroom, unless you count that weird one on the shower. So we bought two nickle plated ones. One hung above the toilet as shown with one shelf above. Aqua towelsand shower curtain
I found this shower caddy on Amazon and loved the design and how it keeps the bottles at an angle.
Now comes the fun stuff. This is a toilet light and is motion activated. You can choose the colors you like.
It does hang over the bowl as shown which I honestly don’t care for. I’d like to find a smaller one.
This is artwork I specifically chose for the men’s bathroom though its certainly perfect for a woman’s bathroom also. I framed it in an old gold frame I already had and then painted silver. If you know the artist you’ll know why. If not, it’s beautiful iris flower. Underneath is my fun cupboard.
Believe it or not this started out as me needing a place to put a toilet paper holder. The toilet was too close to the sink to place it there so I was debating on a stand alone holder which I wasn’t thrilled with. Then I saw these Cabinets and my brain started working. It wasn’t quite as tall as I liked so Roy put a base under for me and we painted it white. Now I really could have some fun! I attached a white toilet paper holder to the side. The kind that is slip on and off because I wanted that to be super easy.
The artificial succulent was purchased at Hobby Lobby and sits on a silver tray.
Then I bought some bottles of Poo Pourri which I’ve always wanted to try. Lets just say I’ll never be without it again. It works amazingly well. So far we’ve tried “Poo La La”, “Deja Poo” and “Party Pooper”.
My daughter Amy bought me this Bathroom Guest Book as a gift, from you guessed it, Amazon. Who knew there was such a thing.
Inside the book.
Outside my cupboard it has the small text “Take a PEEk…” because in this case we encourage snooping. Inside the cupboard is more TP, wet cleansing wipes an MP3 player loaded with music, Bathroom Book 1, 1227 Interesting Facts to Blow Your Socks off and of course Everyone Poops 410 Pounds a Year which is full of info you may or many not want to know about that particular bodily function.
I purchased a spring rod and sewed a grey curtain to cover the small closet. Its so much easier to access now!
I organized it a bit with dollar store containers. We use it for medicine and towels.
Peek a boo!
You have some of the best ideas I have ever seen on any site….period!! And, I have just about seen them all…lol. Keep up the good work, you & hubby 🙂
Well thank you Sharon. That made my day. Ü
That guest bathroom is great, but my favorite is the guest book and the rest of the stuff in and on the shelf. LOVE the idea!!
Thanks Cristy! I actually have some things people wrote in that book now that I’m going to add to the post as soon as I take the photos. They are hilarious!
