Girly Car Accessories Supplies

• 3″ to 4″ high items make excellent ornaments. Items I used specifically was a  Fisher Price Flamingo, and a Unicorn Action figure from this set. Think VERY light weight plastic things. Dog toys, kids toys etc. They need to have a base to firmly hold the magnet(s).
• Extra Strong Magnets N35 or Higher 1.5″ in size. You can also buy them on eBay
• Waterproof permanent glue
• Silver Paint We use this brand as it seems to give the best silver. (We also used Martha Stewart Pearl Color Fruit Punch from this set)

IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

What you don’t want is your ornament flying off your hood. It should ONLY be used in the following ways.

1. Drive in town only when using your ornament.
2. Don’t drive over 35 MPH, just to be safe.
3. Use only light weight thin plastic items never taller than 4 inches or so.
4. Use only super strong magnets as described.
5. Use super strong Permanent Epoxy glue
6. Pop it off, NEVER SLIDE IT AS IT CAN MARK THE CAR, when you go in anywhere. (Not for safety but just to make sure it doesn’t get taken!)

Instructions

Find the items you wish to use for your ornaments. Make sure they have flat surfaces so you can attach a magnet. Some might require two magnets.

Don’t make them higher than about 4″ or so due to wind resistance.

The stronger the magnet the more brittle it is. When shipped to you they will have spacers between them to prevent breaking. If you hold one magnet close to the other it will snap together. It will also probably break. Be very careful.

For our Fisher-Price toy Flamingo, I wanted it in a metallic pink so I used Martha Stewart’s Pearl Fruit Punch. I had to paint over him about 5 times, at least the head and foot part.

Using the epoxy attach the magnet to the bottom and allow to dry overnight.

The final hood ornament is ready to use. When removing them, DO NOT SLIDE THEM off the car. Pull them straight up as they can possibly leave a mark. It usually rubs off but don’t take a chance.

The unicorn was spray painted silver.

Glue the magnet onto the feet of your unicorn and let set overnight to complete it.

I came across a batman and wanted to keep his cape black so I used masking tape and a paper towel to cover it.

I taped up close to his neck.

Then taped up the rest of the cape with the paper towel. 

I chose gold for Batman.   The dragon was painted silver and magnets added to its feet.
