Traditional, Non Traditional, Start Your Own Business

  1. Figure Out Why You Want To Make A Change

Knowing why you want to make a change will help you to build momentum and take the steps needed to do it, no matter how difficult. You can figure this out by asking yourself the following questions:

  • What is it about your current job that you don’t like or have outgrown?
  • What skills do you feel aren’t being put to good use?
  • Do you feel valued and respected?

It might be a good idea to figure out how long you’ve felt this way, too. If you haven’t felt this way for too long, it may not be a good idea to change just yet. However, if it’s something you’ve thought about for a while, then changing is a smart next step.

  1. Pinpoint What Is Going To Fulfill You

If you’re going to make a successful career change, then you need to carefully pinpoint what is going to fulfill you. Think back to the times you’ve felt most satisfied, fulfilled, and lit up. What were you doing? Who were you with? You may even think back to the sort of things you did when you were younger, as these things can be a huge clue into what you will enjoy now!  It may sound funny, but you can even watch YouTube videos created by career professionals who can provide a glimpse into the daily challenges and rewards of the professions of most interest to you.

A huge digital era lifestyle driven change is sweeping across the world.  It has to do with the always popular desire for turning your career passions into a “wherever you are” based business that can be ran essentially from anywhere there’s a wi-fi signal.  People are working from home, while vacationing, or even traveling the world!  My own career desires were born from this kind of idea to have my business with me, wherever I am at the time.  That’s how craftyourhappiness.com was born.  As you can imagine, the crafting ideas on this website are done mainly from my own home, but I can also do most of the ideas while I’m visiting family or traveling anywhere. It’s very liberating.  So, if your ideas are geared more towards non-traditional or creative career paths, there’s still plenty of fulfilling directions and options for you!

  1. Work Towards The Qualifications You Need

When you have an idea of what you might like to do, it’s time to work towards the qualifications you need. You may be able to do this with self directed study, such as an online data analytics MBA program. You can learn pretty much anything online, which is hugely beneficial if you need to learn in your own time.  Objectively using these online resources will get your creativity kicked into high gear, as you’ll quickly be able to see facets of your newly chosen career in the reviews and career paths of influencers and laymen alike.

  1. Build Your Network Now

Don’t wait to build your network. Add people on Linked-in and make a special effort to attend events. Being in the mix of motivated people who share the same interests and career paths you love is a sure way to increase your own excitement and passion.  You never know who you might meet, and remember that the adage ‘it’s not what you know, it’s who you know’ still rings true!

  1. Get Super Clear On Where You Want To be

Have a clear image on where you want to be. For instance:

  • How much do you want to make?
  • What lifestyle do you want to lead?
  • How much do you want to work?
  • What sort of people do you want to help?

When it comes to actively pursuing your new career, there is no room for being lukewarm, so develop your goals, build on your desires, and begin picturing yourself in your new role.  If your  commitment level has not risen to the point that drives your actions, you’re clearly not at a place yet that will carry you towards completion.  Ask as many questions as you need to so you can build a clear picture in your head, and hold it there as you work towards your goals.  This process builds motivation and drives you forward.  Pretty soon you’ll be well on your way!

It doesn't matter how old you are or what you do currently: a career change is something you should feel free to do if your current job is not a good fit.
