These elegant poinsettia Christmas placemats can also be used as centerpieces or even wall hangings! All you need is a 12″ piece of square felt and some fake poinsettias and a hot glue gun. They are easy to make and would be great as a gift. In fact, you could hang one on your front door! These are exactly the same as our Quick Leafy Autumn Placemats we made for Thanksgiving using leaves we got at the local Dollar, store proving yet again that decor doesn’t have to be expensive to be classy! FYI you may notice that little white reindeer in the photo from a previous post. Learn how to make those simple Twig & Twine Wooden Reindeer here!
Christmas Placemats Supplies
NOTES: I used a 12″ x 18″ piece of red felt and made a 12″ circle for the base.
- Artificial Poinsettia (One 12″ circle took two large bunches from Walmart @$3.00 a bunch with some left over. Check the dollar stores or sales at craft stores! You need big leaves preferably.
- Large Felt This was the best deal Amazon had but it’s a variety of colors.I I suggest purchasing a single sheet locally if you can unless you need to stock up.
- Glue Gun

Instructions
Gather your supplies.
Trace the size of circle you want. My deviled egg plate was the perfect size!
Cut out your circle.
Pull the leaves and flowers off the stems.
Clip the stems off the leaves. There were no wires so normal scissors worked on mine.
Do the same with the red portion.
Because these leaves are so large you will need to put a broad strip of glue at the base to hold them down.
Begin gluing on the green leaves around the edge of your felt piece overlapping as shown.
If you find that some are lifting up just add a little glue to tack them down more.
You can choose to do as many green and red rows as you like, depending on the number of leaves you have of each. I did two rows of green and then started on the red.
Offset the leaves as you go along, continuing to overlap them.
Once I got to the center it took five small leaves to finish it off.
We used ours as a centerpiece along with our Twine & Twig Wooden Deer.
The back looks nice and clean.
