What better way to celebrate Earth Day than tossing around some of these heart shaped wildflower seed bombs. They are easy (3 ingredients) and inexpensive and we’ve got two ways to package them. After you make a batch you simply toss the seed bombs anywhere there is dirt… along the side of the road, in an open field etc. The next time it rains they will dissolve, and before you know it there will be a little more beauty in the world.
So show the earth some love! They also make great gifts you can give with our free appropriate poem or tags below. Looking for more Earth Day ideas? Check out our DIY World Clock for Earth Day.

- Wildflower seeds
- Flower Pot
- Tongue Depressor

- Poem & tag printout
- Mesh bags (optional choice) 4×6 size is about what is shown.

Instructions for Seed Bombs
NOTE: If the clay is a firmer variety you will need to add in a few drops of water to help you knead and shape it.
- Roll a small 1 1/2″ ball of white air dry clay.
- Flatten it out and add a scant 1 tsp. of potting soil.
- Knead the soil into the clay.
- Flatten it again and add approximately 1/4 tsp. seeds.
- Knead the seeds into the clay.
- Shape into hearts and allow to dry.
Toss the seed bombs anywhere appropriate where there is dirt. The next time it rains it will dissolve.
We used a very soft air dry clay. If a harder clay is used add a few drops of water to help knead and shape it.
Going to do these for Earth day
Thanks for sharing this project! I’d like to do this with my Girl Scout Troop. What kind of mesh bags are pictured here?
If you scroll all the way down on the post it shows that I just cut a piece of mesh and sewed up the sides. But you can guy them too in bulk. It’s about a 4×6 but depends on how many you put in it. https://amzn.to/2q6PbjH Good luck!
About how many bombs does each bag of clay make? We are doing as Sunday School project and need an idea of how much to purchase.
So sorry for the delay Julinn… I’ve been on the road… It all depends on the size you make your bombs and the size of the clay. Would be hard to guess I’m afraid. It’s been a while and I can’t remember how much I used and what was left. Sorry!

Thanks so much for sharing this at last week’s Friday Favorites link party. I just wanted to let you know that I have chosen this as one of my features this week. http://aheartfulloflove.com/friday-favorites-week-317/ I hope you will come back and party with us again this week.
How kind of you Jen! Thank you so much. I’ll share you link on all my social networks!
Oh I can’t tell you enough how much I love these seed bombs!! What a lovely idea! I just pinned it. Thank you so much for sharing at my craft party on Thursday! Would love to see your newest posts this week, which starts at 7pm EST.
Thank you Denise. Ü
Please let me know if I can use Sculpey EZ modeling clay. They say on the pkg. it won’t dry out. I have to make lots so trying to keep price down. Thanks, Ann
Hi Ann! I’m afraid Sculpey no dry (or the kind you bake) won’t work. It has to be air dry clay. The Sculpey won’t dissolve when it rains or gets wet. Not sure if you shop in amazon but they have a 5 lb bucket for $14 http://amzn.to/1XEe0fc Another idea is if you have a Michael’s Craft or Hobby Lobby store every week they have a 40% off coupon. You can get some really good deals that way! Good luck. Hope you find something that works for you!
Thanks Nancy for the quick reply. I love the idea of seed bombs for the kids. I am also trying the seeds on paper that has been in a blender with water to make a mash that’s dried. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve seen that. I may try that myself some time. Have fun!
Love, love, LUV this idea! Brilliant. Thanks for sharing! Stopping by from the SITS Sharefest
You bet Rebecca. Thank you for stopping by!
What a very cute idea! I love how nice everything looks together (seed bombs, pot, sign) and hey, we always could use more pretty flowers out and about, right?! Love it! 🙂 Lisa
