Game of Thrones brought these into the public eye. I mean, how cool is a dragon egg? I wanted one. Bellow you’ll not only learn how to make a dragon egg but how to make one that looks spectacular and is easy an inexpensive! Can’t beat that. And if you like this check out our Dragon Craft Post making Dragon Eyes!
Supplies
- A foam egg (3″ is a great size)
- Silver thumbtacks 200 count. 2 boxes.
How to Make a Dragon Egg Instructions
Starting at the bottom gently push in the thumb tacks overlapping them slightly. Continue to the top. Took me about 45 minutes to do one 3″ tall egg. You could possibly spray paint these or use gold thumb tacks. Be careful inserting the pins. If you wiggle them too much it creates a large whole in the egg and they will fall out. These eggs are meant to be viewed and not handled much.
Visual Instructions
For one 3″ dragon egg it takes a little over one pack of thumbtacks 200 count.
Starting at the bottom, carefully insert thumbtacks, overlapping slightly.
Display Your Egg Most Awesomely!
I found the perfect way to display your new dragon egg. Make a bell jar case out of a plastic soda bottle. There are two different styles you can make. TUTORIAL HERE

I wonder if using some sort of glue would help with the durability/longevity of the egg? Like a hot glue gun or something? I know a lot of glues are problematic with that kind of foam, but worth a thought?
We’ve thought of that and I’m sure that might help though it would be a bit tedious for sure. As long as it’s just sitting and not handled it should be fine. But a tiny dab of glue on each pin would secure it. Not sure what would be best for foam though. Appreciate the input!
There are a number of styrofoam glues available. Doa a search for styrofoam glue and you will get a multutide of places to purchase.
Thanks for the hint Frani. Ü
