Crafting in the Raw – Making Do With What You Have

There are times when we just don’t have the best space we’d like in our homes to do certain things. That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy what you have! See how I turned an unfinished basement into a fun crafting area! blank630x20

Calm down… I don’t really craft naked (though I’d never judge those of you who do.) As we’ve moved a lot I’m always looking for unique craft room ideas. In this particular home we lived it had a full basement. I decided to put my craft room on the unfinished side which also held the washer and dryer. I did this because it had a full wall of shelves already in place to hold all my goodies. Despite the room being “raw” as it were with bare wood and no ceiling I still found ways to make it fun and unique.  The take away message here is don’t let your less than perfect spaces keep you from having fun with them. Use what you have and make it yours!blank630x20

You’ve given me hope!! We’re remodeling a house, planning to two-week and build in a year or so. The basement is unfinished and BUGGY…and we don’t plan on spending the $$ to finish it…BUT, I can’t live without a crafting space in the meantime…your ideas inspire me to get things in gear and make it a happy place! Thank you!!

  2. I love it! I always secretly wonder about the posts I see with ‘perfect’ craft rooms! I would be neurotic about spilling paint or making a mess. Your craft space looks organized, lovely, but also perfectly utilitarian!

  3. Love your blog!! My kinda crafter… I walk around the house and find stuff to repurpose all the time. I save twine and ribbons from other projects..I just love reusing things. And the sense of accomplishment when you are finished and give new life to something that was previously in ruin is indescribable! I too will have to make a craft area like your wonderful space!
